Stony Point, Flinders, Cape Schanck and Phillip Island

On Friday we headed for Mornington Peninsular. We had tried to make a booking for the foreshore camping at Sorrento or Rosebud but it was all booked out except for one site. We were able to make the booking for Sunday on. They required payment up front so we only booked for three nights in case it was not as good as expected.

So instead we went to Stony Point which is on the eastern side of Mornington Peninsular. It was right on the water and very nice. We booked in to the caravan park there and were very lucky as they were the last two sites. People were ringing up the office to book in as we scooped up the last two.

After set up and lunch we headed out for a drive, taking the scenic route down to Flinders. Flinders is a beautiful place and the site of the first telegraph cable coming up from Tasmania. It is a very rich town with many mansions around. The shops and café and restaurants were very up market and may of the cars being Mercedes and other flash ones.

The views from the lookout took in French Island and Phillip Island.

Then we were treated to a couple of guys doing para gliding. That was pretty cool. I had not seen how that was done before. A video will be posted on facebook.

Then further down the coast was Cape Schanck. We walked around and took in the views.

As we were going to be taking the vans into the Quarantine Station and Fort Nepean area which is in the National Park past Portsea we drove in there to see where we could park. A very undisturbed echidna came waddling along and we got the best shots ever of these little cridders.

That turned out to be a full day. We did not get back to camp till about 5.30pm. We had a great spot in the van park but I did not get any photos.

Not being keen to cook we went out for dinner to the only place that was local which was Matty's Bar and Bistro at Crib Point. We had a great parmy. Matty was a real character and he sang Billy Joel's, 'We Didn't Start the Fire'.  It was a good day.

On Saturday we took the ferry from Stony Point to Phillip Island.

The first stop was French Island. We’d had the tip that there was not a lot to interest us there.

The ferry took us to Cowes on Phillip Isand. It was a nice spot.

We had lunch at the Isola Di Capri Restaurant and Gelateria which looks out over the bay. It was a beautiful spot to have lunch and the Phillip Island Pale Ale was a good drop. It was a great day.

We walked off lunch and took in more views.

The tide goes out a long way here. If you compare the first shots of the cruise to the end you will see what I mean.
